Farmers Market

Farmers Market

On Saturdays during the summer, the downtown block of Main Street is closed off from 8 am to 12 noon, volunteers from the community help to line the streets with Amish made carts topped with gaily colored striped awnings and vendors arrive with farm fresh produce, plants, crafts and baked goods for sale.

Visitors and residents stroll along the street filling their bags, chatting with friends and neighbors and enjoying the summer mornings. There are breakfast items to munch on while shopping or a lunch enjoyed early and plenty of farm fresh veggies to take home for later. The produce varies as the summer progresses with both heirloom and more familiar varieties but all are locally grown. By the end of July the carts and tables overflow with plump ripe tomatoes, squash, onions, potatoes, beans, and more – not forgetting the first of the mouthwatering fresh Indiana corn on the cob. And don’t forget the fruit for a balanced diet! Fresh from the vine raspberries and blackberries and true blue blueberries grace the market. David Doud brings his juicy peaches, crisp apples and award-winning apple cider as the season goes on.

Local merchants jump in with yummy goodies. Grandma Sue has her pies for sale in seventeen different flavors and her home-made noodles; La Dolce Vita offers crepes alfresco or gooey cinnamon rolls, roasted veggie salads and delicious treats; Joseph Decuis bakes baguettes hot from the oven and their Emporium café starts serving lunch at 11:00 a.m.; and it’s never too early to enjoy an ice cream cone or dish of gelato from Moose & Mollie’s.
